City officials say a new street connecting Scottsdale and Hayden roads north of Loop 101 is scheduled to open by early May. Legacy Boulevard will run east for a mile from the One Scottsdale development to Hayden, a half-mile north of the freeway and will eventually extend east to Pima Road to align with Union Hills Drive, but that stretch has not been yet been funded, said Annie DeChance, a city transportation spokeswoman.
Once this is completed, Union Hills east of Pima will be renamed Legacy Boulevard all the way to Thompson Peak Parkway.
Legacy Boulevard, referred to as Center Drive on earlier maps, will provide an additional east-west route for Grayhawk area motorists and extend access to state trust land north of Loop 101.
Scottsdale is building the section of Legacy Boulevard east from 74th Street to Hayden and that project is nearly finished.
DMB Associates, the One Scottsdale developer, is building the stretch of Legacy west of 74th Street and should have it done by mid-April, said Lynneah Hudson, DMB director of marketing.
In a related matter, Dial Boulevard will be removed from street signs and maps. The city will take up the name change now that Dial Corp. has moved to its headquarters at One Scottsdale, city planning spokeswoman Erica Bruno said.
